RETRO CIRCULAR SCREEN PRINTED TABLECLOTH BY ALMEDAHLS DALSTOFORS BORAS IN SWEDEN

Screen printed onto an easy press heavy polyester/linen furnishing fabric, this exotic large- scale pattern, suggesting giant flowers and butterflies, was possibly designed by Astrid Sampe, one of the great Swedish textile designers of the mid 60s designing for Almedahls. Originally specialising in woven table linen in the 19th century, Almedahls branched out into printed tablecloths, tea towels and furnishing fabric in dramatic full width patterns, in the mid 1950s. During the 60s Almedahls created a collection of startling, printed patterns including giant cartoon style abstracts and Carnaby Street florals such as this one. Almedahls tablecloths, tea-towels and furnishing fabrics were imported by Heals during the 1960s and 1970s and were a very in accessory to have. This is a fabulous example of the inventiveness and adventurousness of Swedish designers for Almedahls at that time. This giant floral and butterfly print is in reds and purple with green for the foliage outlined in black on a neutral background. The perimeter is finished with a red bias binding and bears the Almedahls label EASY PRESS and wash care instructions.

DIAMETER: 148cm/58inches
WEIGHT: 434g

CONDITION: There seems to have been some bringing together of the bias binding and fabric where it possibly came away around the edge close to the label. There are no holes or tears and apart from the very minor flaw mentioned the table cloth is in brilliant condition.
